Name: LaNea Austin
Ms. LaNea Austin has been teaching English to high school students for about nine years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and English at the University of Southern California (USC) and spent a few years working as a reporter before she dedicated her career to teaching. Ms. Austin earned her teaching credential at California State University, Long Beach, and is currently pursuing National Board Certification. She always wanted to be a teacher and is extremely dedicated to helping students learn literacy skills, because reading and writing is her passion. She said, “My belief is that the classroom should always be a positive environment for students, and students should always feel comfortable learning according to their individual stimulus.” She works hard perfecting her practice to make this possible. In addition to teaching English, Ms. Austin holds other leadership positions at Harts including working as a member of the Instructional Committee, Senior Advisor, a proud sponsor of The DREAM Club and Black Student Union, as well as, rewarding experiences outside of school management including being a National Writing Project Fellow and a Teach Plus Teaching Policy Fellow.
