Name: Michael Denman

Michael Denman has been a high school history teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for the last 28 years. After completing his undergraduate work from UC San Diego, he went on to earn his teaching credential and Master’s degree from UCLA in 1989. An avid traveler, he was fortunate to spend a year studying African history at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
Named the California Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2002 by the California Council for Social Studies, Michael Denman is an active board member for theSouthern California Social Science Association and is currently serving as president-elect.
In 2013, Michael Denman was awarded the George Moffett Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Social Studies. When he is not teaching or helping to run Student Council and student activities at HArts, he plays fantasy football, watches BBC mysteries and spends time with his wife and daughter.
While many have pleaded with Michael Denman to pursue more seriously his burgeoning rap career as White Cheddar, he remains dedicated to his students and classroom at this time.
