Vasquez I'm your assistant principal and I'm here to support you and answer any questions that you guys may have I'm excited to really start this year even though we're doing it remotely I feel very strong that will be back on campus and sometime this year and we're still really hoping for that but right now I just ask that you guys going to try your hardest and we're here for you guys. and I'll turn it over to miss a bronze the counselor hey guys my name is Miss tabron I will be your counselor it's so glad to have you guys back off mr. I can't wait until we actually are on campus again going to have a great school year great semester weather that's virtually you know at hearts and you and thank you for coming this evening and excited to I hear update so I can go ahead and start talking about updates I'm going to work on interpretation if I'm a real quick I would just like to ask all parents and everybody joining us tonight all right so we're going to get the interpretation going but for the sake of time will start so talk about some of the details that are going to be important for parents and students to to know as far as for this upcoming year my name is a Kenya or Doctor Williams whichever you prefer I did my doctor's education 2018 been with year-round in Hearthstone really grateful for hearts here I put number and then I'll add the phone number so just so you guys know so DNR office hours are going to be the first and third Tuesday appointment to come into the office and make sure that you reach out to either ministrative assistant or office technician and also this information will be on the hearts website so as soon as you go on to the Hearth academy.org all updated officer information will be on that first welcome thank you first day of instruction is August 18th we are going to be how far are families that are for another school year calendar start a couple of days before we have some off days that are not we are in this distance learning you know you're right now I'm our school staff felt that very for our families 2 be able to have a set especially because we're not doing so again this year we will be following the LAUSD calendar so our first date first day of instruction registration days are coming up this week we're starting with starting with our ninth grade class but there will be a class that will be Wednesday August it we are breaking it down current climate as far as I feel like it is really importance of course to not have numbers so would that be on Wednesday August 5th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. are registration is going to be kind of 3/4 we want to be able to have the resources that we need for them in our system in addition we are going to be sold for students who are you he said he don't take care of the laptop return it so just be aware of that question kind of answer that right now if you have not received we are going to I'm during registration so that means are you still out exact same day so and just so everyone knows once we get through all of this we are question answers question is not answered I will make sure that I will take place on Thursday August 6th process right at 9 a.m. on Friday and I'll be nice to 12 Thursday you can come on Friday and get in get through just know that for whatever reason is Thursday or Friday don't work for your Wednesday we will support any student on any day that they're able to come we just wanted to be able to have one day specific they are questions that they that they have that may not be per two are upperclassmen what again Wednesday or Thursday or Friday or any dinner change them today is only for this rate we are trying to take care of our of our students need to keep the numbers you know small while they are or are not just simply focusing on you know getting your schedule we're going to give you a letter with a different I need to change them we will accept students on all 3 days regardless of the great mobile is Wednesday on our ninth grade class it again as soon as we get through the size we are going to open it up for a question so I'm sure you are aware it was almost didn't come back to school so we really didn't have a lot of understand you know how classes would be organized to be working on but now because were informed ahead of time schedule as far as student login to do in working with so this is the Texas schedule that week because we may need to make changes to it we are going to make changes are finalized by next August 12th website and that this is the schedule so Monday is going to be an opportunity for for students to kind of look at the Cedars-Sinai Simon want them to be able to have that Monday to kind of get to get those things together and so I guess you guys can see you know it's going to be a secret I'm their teacher reported a lesson for them to look at before they come to class on that Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday or Friday is the time where they're going to go in and start the process synchronous learning which is where they're actually in a zoom meeting like we are now with their teacher and some Mondays are going to be instructions for virtually is going to start Tuesday of that week so as you can see are doing. 3 and 5 Tuesdays and Thursdays. whatever it is that they need to do before the next class start. Three students are going to do their advisory advisory and so forth and so on all the way up to 12th grade on Tuesdays is going to be the day that they get to see in their advisory class on any game disc there are teachers are going to have is struggling with a certain a little bit this is the time they can go in and work with more small smaller groups to come get as far as their schedule that is pretty much everything that we I know and I know that take a question-and-answer and start trying to answer there were a couple of questions in regards to 9th graders if you already get your pocket in June right before summer break you do not have to submit another packet we already have your pocket but you still need to come in to pick up a schedule textbook and devices I'm in like dr. Williams mentioned it is a half drive up half walk through like entering on President Avenue you'll be getting a letter once you come in from gate that dictate your group that you will be will be calling the groups alphabetically each with about seven or eight per group fuel line up in front of J1 which is where you dropped off the packet if you've already came with our first main building Arts Academy eat a packet drop off or you'll be going to step to which is your class schedule if you already received your packet after class schedule you will pick up your device if needed I'm go into our next area which is Mill applications if you've already finished your meal application online that you just have to show proof of the confirmation that you submitted your application you guys do it on your phone so it will stay a huge step going to the next process and it will also help easier time that you're actually got registration in the final step is receiving the text book and that's our kind of five step by step process for nutrition to ensure that everyone is safe everyone is secure if they were only imagine about eight people at a time spread out throughout our campus question here as far as a family out of town office this week you're not able to get there to get your textbook or your phone or Trinity paperwork you can come into the office we are going to be there from 9 to 3 p.m. first day of school so and we'll make sure that we have that available for you ceic here do the seniors have to go take the senior pictures next week to test email Administrative Assistant Miss Lopez Ashley nails to all their information just know the actual Studios or not going to be hosting you know the pictures on our campus Because unfortunately we are unable to give in the current location and make your appointment to go into the studio to take the pictures for your senior senior pictures I see a couple of questions regarding text all all classes if you have new classes of specially in a 9th graders need new books and then of course if your senior sorry about that so course everybody needs to pick up text books about if you have text books from last year that you didn't turn it's a good time to bring them in also so bring your textbooks and you can exchange them out for her new text books or going to classes but make sure you come and pick up your schedule and test book and also a device or any other kind of anything else to pick up regarding technology it's a good time to show up during these times also I just saw something in our Arch at Arch at that are Miss Lopez Jesse Lopez with you again we're going to post information to website all seniors you can call into the office directly in best she will so you guys should be receiving them any day now to make those appointments to go in and take your senior pictures if you did your mail application a couple of months ago he should receive confirmation as to just bring that confirmation email and that shows proof that you submitted the mail application before today or before registration day and also unfortunately books be mailed and you will have to come on campus to receive new text books as well as any devices and devices also include hotspots as well with any student does need a hotspot parents can make it an older sibling come with student can we walk into the school we will be accepting walk in traffic all of the want to keep the entrance the same walking in or you are coming in my car so just be aware please enter through the present gate and if the parents can come to help me pick up the materials at 8 previous student student is coming back they will receive your class schedule on registry Sunday and to change your classes the first day of school August 18th there will be a link online to submit a schedule schedule change and those will be submitted before August 28th which is the last day to change two things that I see here ice ice when do 11th graders come in and we are asking that the 11th graders come in on the 6th again if the 6 doesn't work just be aware that you know on Wednesday Thursday and Friday I do see a question here regarding Chromebooks as soon as you've already had laptop already have a laptop and they are not in heat bring the Chromebooks that I know that they were using them for their but if they already have them that of course we do have a question regards to our cleaning protocol while during registration likely missions there are limiting the number of families individuals on campus to 7 with that we are not reusing any pens that you have to fill out once you borrow one of our Panzer writing utensils you able to keep that everything else will be given within the 60 distance adjust schedules laptops all of those have been already disinfected and cleaned prior to give me them out and if you do need to utilize our look devices are laptops or iPads for the mount location spells are cleaned after every use question here and I'm in I'm going to ask Ray and Mister questionnaires and I'm not too familiar with that I will start trying to get in but I don't know we do have hotspots available I'm not sure to what capacity they are different from each individual's internet a we do if you have available if you do need faster internet or you want to try the hot spot to see if that helps your internet we are able to sign you up so you can receive a hotspot hopefully before the beginning of the school year if I'm not mistaken I think we do have only a handful hot spots left from spring semester and once we get the request will be able to issue more hotspots once school starts again I'm not sure how much faster are hotspot is compared to your internet it just to add to that I know the district is working on more technology and devices for students because we are starting the school year distance learning some just look out for updates regarding the hot spots and I also see a question that I was asking about the first live instruction we are going to start the school year off with a Smart Start which means that I know your teachers are going to give you a couple of days to it'll go over the school platform like school and they're going to they're going to give you guys some guys we have some wonderful teachers out there that are very supportive and we're going to spend the first probably we just going over protocols with the expectations of our students and we're going to have kind of another slow start but a smart stay so everybody feels comfortable on how to get started with instruction so it won't be an immediate but it'll be probably the following week image of a question is there's no way to stay out of town and do online learning regarding internet books and schedules unfortunately in order to get your books your schedule and possibly a hotspot you have to come on campus for some reason a former student are returning heart student is unable to pick their class schedule up their class schedule will be on schoology the first day of instruction but in regards to books and hotspots there are no way that you aren't able to come onto campus and pick those up one question that I am seeing as come up again if application it is a requirement of a yearly 4 that is just the process so again yes in regards to paperwork that needs to be brought to registration it is the typical registration in packets witches brew I see of parents a copy of utility bill and transferred that they're coming from the disc and digital school if they're not incoming 8th grader if they are a going into 10th 11th or 12th grade Athenian Edition keep in mind I'm registration and I know that's confusing especially for our returning students registration change of schedule Please be aware that that's what that registration. to be successful earlier I see pictures will be taken at a later date when it is safe to return to campus the currently you'll be sticking with the same ID pictures that they've had from 9th is that correct I'm sitting over time I started looking at the chat pictures they'll be taken once it's safe to return back on campus correct that is correct returning students do not need to complete all the forms again warm that the returning students need to complete is just the mail application and emergency card and I know they're asking for the fruit post we just posted the meal application right there just did it again meeting will be posted on the website tomorrow morning and if you are just so you know if you are an L you if you are already from like a LAUSD School you just you'll need the proof of residency and just be aware of that is a bronsted we're going to post recording on to the West Side so you'll be able to which is what I was saying as far as the opposite man that first and just know from now always August 18th the office will be 2018 passes for going to start you can actually come into the office to get support the first and third Tuesday of the month emergency cards if you are currently connected to the parent portal LUSD Parent Portal you can update your emergency card via the LAUSD Parent Portal so if you check your child schoology you know you are accessing the parent portal you can update the emergency card via Parent Portal and one other question that I asked I see here and I was coming before is about getting headphones for their students so and I'm and I apologize family you know I newest member of our family I'm not sure what I'm devices rituals were passed out right those are just some more devices that we are asking the district to provide like hotspots in First Technology but headphones are definitely one of the devices that were asking for for students as we know how important it is to have headphones you know while you're doing the zoom meeting or within you know you're home so those are play Something That We're requesting from the district waiting for updates on that and I just wanted to add also going back to real quick with the lunch application a lot of questions regarding if you have multiple students in different School you can just use one application so if you have a student in elementary school middle school and high school you can fill out just one application and put all the names of your children on that one application with their dedicated school so if you've done ready for let's say Fleming Middle School you don't have to do it for your other spouse come to the heart unless you haven't done it yet but you'd like to put them all on the same application there will be a tutoring and office hours free stuff of our new schedule every day from 1 to 2 if they're based off of the teacher they are able to extend those office hours but every Monday through Friday teachers will have office hours for students for additional help from one pick you up walk everyday so you know there's a couple concerns with tutoring and how to get additional help and those are the times where your child is able to go in with them or smaller study and ask for help from the teachers during office hours there's a question regarding cameras being used during a zoom meeting a lot of that deals with the teacher and when the teacher starts teaching the class Velasco Student you know you don't have it on 100% of the time but they're going to be asked to maybe when they're answer the questions of turn on the camera will be asked to participate and they'll probably have to turn on the video camera again when we have our smarts can you begin the school year that teaches will show that students had to do like a green screen or something in the background to fill in the background if they feel like that they want to have some more privacy but probably will be required to at least be on the zoo camera for being part of the the live delivery of it of the Simon are the class when is the question word for school district early doesn't he know change their email address or password I forgot to reset the password from middle school to high school can of course go ahead and be set at the same. previously we had seven. If you guys have been with Hearts Academy you know throughout your years of high school this school year we only have six classes so did we did eliminate our 7. Class which allows for more time for students to focus on core classes currently right now all students have six. Reason being because usually a senior Kaufman has a reduced amount of classes because they are a service ta Feliz campus early for work or for college class and with it being virtually and we aren't able to schedule NATA. In a a college off campus class. Or work experience because they are no longer on campus so as of right now all students have a full six. Schedule I'm going back into the action answer to see if you're able answer mr. Vasquez there's a question on Sports I knew you were talking about it earlier today can you talk about the update that you have the only update that we have regarding Sports is that they're hopeful that we have some kind of sports in the winter is in late November going into December but as far as having your class or still taking your sport it'll be after school I'm not sure about because we were on the same camps as Narbonne I think Narbonne still keeping their sport 6. But since we have an 07. Which is what are sports Pierre used to be Hearts will not be having Sports class that I know of right now but I'm Sports is still it's we're hoping to still continue with a sports program am I correct or the 7th. Miss Marcy has a bronze straight through the Google form whatever classes that were picked they will still have it such as yearbook Cedar all of those classes will still be held in those are still part of their schedules including PPE you know all of these are core classes that still need to be taken and they will still be done virtually on photo filmmaking theater drawing painting all of our electives are still offered and there still be done online and I believe I was just looking at there are question answer boss I believe we answered this but just know because I saw it come up that we are using two different materials so all clean and charging and put away that they stay out the other hand and they don't need it so as far as sanitizing And in regards to sports Again part student is able to participate in any sports that's on campus complex or it's not a particular school so if your child attends heart wants sports resumes they are able to try out and participate on that for that sports team and students will be able to start seeing their class schoology most likely probably about the 17th or Eric or the first day of school classes are scheduled but we have no interaction from when they get moved from one system to schoology that would say to see your classes early the best option is to be sure you come for registration day Guardian returning student that is correct you will need to bring in items such as your birth certificate or ID with us would be asking is for emergency what is the chance of coming back to school next semester unfortunately we still on that yet but as soon as we receive information from the District of that information will be shared with with all of her family soonest. now until know if you currently have a Chromebook that you got from Arts Academy you keep that at home unless there's something wrong with it if it's not charging if it's not turning on then you could swap it out for a new device if nothing is wrong with that then you keep. Chromebook with you until we return back to school and also the students depending on how registration is going as of now I'm going to say no to students changing classes on registration day just because you want to make sure the it's going but the website will be available on my will actually try to make that available for registration dates you can start submitting the request to change your classes ahead of time unfortunately it's not something the information it does not roll over to the next year so every year that you are eSchool super Simon Says given to you so just be aware that you it's probably going to be a mix of different and from what I understand is so click on it and 3 registration we Please be aware that we are going to station setup I see a question being asked about ASB is I still happening absolutely even though we're doing this remote learning we still want to continue to have activities throughout the school year so that not everything is always seem to be like that resume class you know maybe we can have opportunities for for like webinars or Zumiez were students just to meet and have an activities day or have an assembly where we can all meet and you know share best practices are performances with each you still want to continue school and in need of a semi-normal right so you don't have any sb22 kind of lead that absolutely we do have an ASB class schedule practice Avon ASP we still have ASP we still have to restart all the classes as if we were starting school on campus at 18 no classes have changed with exceptions of Athletics another you won't be scheduled the actual address other than that everything will be the same regards to clubs Club rice virtually all of these things will be still happening as if we were on campus on the 18th one question was about being able to do any of the registration process online unfortunately to get devices to get you text books to get certain materials materials if you want to test if you lost a textbook do you have to pay upfront Williams or mr. Vasquez do you want to handle that question would you try to collect all materials where there's a textbook or device so my suggestion would be to see if you can find I look online at Amazon books but I'm the district will require that before you graduate so if your 10th grader you may have time if you're a senior you're going to have to close out by returning everything so incidences you might have to purchase the book before you receive your diploma or returning device if you left anything in your lockers we did clear out Walkers and bag all the locker items by Locker number we will try to have something set up at registration day were you able to pick up your leftover stuff that you might have left in the locker born from infer. Wilcox and just a point of clarification talking about registration fee School you only need proof of residency but from a different LAUSD school for registration you only need proof of residence and ready Rest in paradise so as of now we do not have a late start schedule on Mondays if you're returning too hard to try to me is our current bail are new schedule actually did not have any class meetings on Mondays let me post that up real quick so I don't you see the schedule if they came in late schedule for classes actually can we meet Monday or Tuesday through Friday so Monday does a day for your child to catch up on work attend office hours if need be with any of their teachers making sure that they are checking their Schoology as needed as possible this schedule will be posted on the social media sites as well as the website no later than what day Doctor Williams in sorry when will the schedule be confirmed next Wednesday August 12th by next Wednesday on the schedule will be posted on the website but there was no late start this semester also as of yet as Jen's will not be receiving a planner or agenda this year once we returned the campus then you'll be receiving planners agendas Etc like they have in the past I'm students that needs to pick up artwork please email me with a bronze so I could ask mr. almanza because he has all of the heart everyone's artwork locked up so I get for tutoring it is office hours from 1 to 2 for all teachers that does not include any additional time that teachers will set for tutoring office hours usually are teachers will add additional time for office hours but this is the general time set for all teachers to be available for office hours and once the school year starts we will be adding additional tutoring schedule based off of individual teachers and what their time allows and then I heard the last 15 question and answer him to answer life what are they going to do when they come on Thursday you will start by heading over to the registration process takes place now I'm 48 return a device to us over to miss a prawn and they'll be able to come get their schedule ask a question if they have any from there they go to so that's basically how he should go distribution yes devices are still available we do have devices if you still need a device especially if you are a income ninth-grader I need you not have a Chromebook you will be getting a Chromebook if you are a upperclassmen and you need you again exchange devices or if you never got one that you received those on registration days and then to piggyback on the next question once you return on campus you guys still have to come school on Mondays no Mondays is just for virtual when school starts and it is on campus it will be a one thing that I see here in the Q&A box is what type of assistance will be provided to seniors who are applying for college help with paperwork essay excetera so Miss Abrams if you want to take that question yes I have been spending all summer making YouTube videos that I'll be posting on the hearts website or schoology website and social media that walk students through application personal Insight questions the Common App letters of Rec I'm pretty much the whole college application process I made videos for the students also when school starts I will be doing Zoom videos on group video walking them through again application if they need one on one time they can schedule appointments I have already started reviewing a couple of current or incoming seniors on personal statement questions they just go ahead and send them over to me and I review just not just as the same of the support that will be if they were on campus I'll be providing virtually through again zooms through YouTube kind of walked through one-on-one meeting all of that support will still be there for the student to ensure that they are able to successfully complete college application and excetera one day I saw a check that's not to expose I'm sorry your books we will check with misspelled now and find out like pick up your registration if we have them available and again I just saw the question come up if you purchase a yearbook up will you be able to pick it up during registration again we're going to check with me senior pictures that information was mailed out to your home I'm so just keep out in the mail for that in regards to scheduling other question that I see here is about exit exams in SAT test sorry to graduate that was six years ago sat test as of now the College Board is scheduling SAT test starting in the September test would you have registrations for that if your child does want to register for the SAT test if they plan on going to a 4-year depend on the 4-year on the SAT test is still required but as you may have heard the standardized SAT test for some of the college systems use these and how states are no longer a requirement Puppy Chow just want to register for the SAT test they can email me and I can walk them through that process question things that were sent to the school directly senior pictures were delivered to the school site I will talk to senior advisors and Miss Lopez to see what's in your pictures weren't weren't picks up fire if you can email me and I will take my email address and the check for your child's name I'm so I could look at there was also question regarding the grab-and-go at Narbonne yes it's still going to remain a site as a grab-and-go I don't believe it has anything to do the mill application so we're still asking for everybody to turn in a meal application in the easiest way is to go online we can post that that site again at my apps. Com.org fill out the meal application for still asking that everybody turning their meal application because you know it's a way that have that we still get Federal funding through title one so it's really important and it's not it's not always just that the grab-and-go or the meals a lot of other money comes to title one because of the meal application so it's a lot more support to so that's why we're encouraging everybody to fill out an application lights Rite Aid use a different one each time you sign in so whatever the password issue when it comes time for that 1 to 2 p.m. time. That is the same information yes please bring the confirmation for of the mail vacation on registration you can if you take a screenshot you can write it down I'm just so it shows proof that you submitted your application it looks like we have cleared I feel like we have will probably answer this last question teachers are going to be working with the specific resources and the process of getting into the zoom so I would say returning as far as in having any trouble you can email myself still struggling to get into the zoo last question is will it be sites that will be used daily besides schoology like Google classroom and zoom Doctor Williams going to bargain I thought so we saved make sure she checking your student emails on a regular basis schoology and the zoom sessions for the actual live instruction can't make it to registration daycare online textbook for your devices you will need to come onto campus to do that we will be making ourselves available all the way until August so please is way to do it but you will need to materials you will need for so it looks like he's our last question that is in there this is recorded will website in question we will be there from now until August I really appreciate you guys for joining us we had a really great turnout and I look forward to partnering with you guys and website with me and let me know are you guys have a great semester what will make it happen
